When
Mikey was little he got most of his writing inspiration from the dark woods
that surrounded his grandparent’s farm house in Missouri. Now that he’s older, he
get his inspiration from the over active imaginations of his children. He will
swear to you that his house is overrun with imaginary dragons, unicorns,
fairies, and of course—magic; which is always good when trying to come up with
a new story to tell.
Illustration has always been a love
of Mikey’s. His art has been seen in many forms from picture books, Ocelot Scott, by Carolyn Quist, and Lucius and the Christmas Star, by Jim Long, to
murals for community art productions. He creates full-room murals and loves to
doodle on almost anything. He also works freelance Illustrator. Check out his some art in the Gallery or view his portfolio.
Aside from writing and illustrating,
Mikey also love to read middle-grade and young adult fiction, narrate picture
books, sing, and even sew. That’s right he also sews! He’s made practically
everything from, Elizabethan costumes for the Utah Shakespearean Festival, to
modern style wedding dresses. Mikey’s
greatest love is his family. He gets more than inspiration from them; he gets
support, courage, and most of all happiness.
Mikey Brooks has a BS in English,
emphasis in Creative Writing, from Utah State University. He’s had several
poems and personal essays published in university sponsored literary magazines
and was awarded 3rd place for his personal essay, Waiting for the Morning Sun to Rise, in the Utah Arts 23rd Annual
Writing Competition. He is the author/illustrator of
several books including BEAN’S
DRAGONS, the ABC
ADVENTURES series, and author of the middle-grade fantasy-adventure
novel, THE
DREAM KEEPER. He is
also one of the hosts of the Authors’
